To delve furthur into the question of what affects your definition of the word ‘technology’, I decided to go to one of my oldest friends, Kevin, who I grew up with under the same general circumstances. Kevin defined technology as, “New innovations in society’s leisurly activities or in the methods of performing services”. I find it interesting that Kevin notes that technology has to be “new”. It brings me back to our class discussion about whether or not technology has to be new or not. I certainly do not think that technology needs to be new to be technology, but it is the first word in Kevin’s definition. Kevin did, however say that technology is innovative and contributes to the same things as mentioned before multiple times, society, leisure, and getting things done. I like to note that Kevin brought up the same point that my dad did in saying that a method can be defined as technology. I think that this is a very important aspect of technology. Technology does not have to always be solid, tangible objects, but it can be a process of creating these objects, or tweaking these objects. Basically, as long as it is useful, it is technology. According to Kevin’s idea, actually, it sounds like he would consider any idea for improving society technology. Everybody I asked about technology said the same basic things, but they all have subtle differences, and with Kevin, it is the idea that an idea can be considered technology.
